The
Oil flow laboratory has the capability to calibrate any type of
flow meter and is tailor made to do the calibration of flow meters
used for the bulk flow measurement viz., Positive displacement flow
meters, Turbine flow meters, Mass flow meters, etc., which are used
to determine the total quantity of fluid. The facility makes use
of static gravimetric calibration system for measurement and the
calibration is performed by "Standing start and stop"
method. All measurements made at FCRI are traceable to Indian National
Standards.
The medium of flow is EXXSOL D80, with a kinematic
viscosity of 2.06 Centistokes at 250C and a specific gravity of
0.78. It is also possible to change the medium of calibration to
either Hydrol 100 or Hydrol 220 for flow rates upto 100 m3/h (450
GPM). The kinematic viscosity of Hydrol 100 and Hydrol 220 are 100
centistokes and 200 centistokes respectively at 40 0C. This multi
viscous facility can be used to generate "Universal viscosity
curves" for turbine flow meters upto 4 " NB.
The calibration of flow meters or flow products
at FCRI are carried out with reference to American Petroleum Institute
(API) standards ,ISO standards , ASTM standards, OIML standards
,etc
