Water meters
| FCRI is involved in testing of different types and sizes of water meters for the last two decades. Now, around 2000 water meters of various sizes are tested at FCRI every year. The test facility is accredited by NABL and recognized by Bureau of Indian Standards. Routine tests (initial verification tests) and Pattern approval tests are normally conducted on meters. Routine test of water meters include hydrostatic pressure test, accuracy tests at different flow rates and pressure loss tests.

after prolonged flow conditions - discontinuous and continuous- as specified by standards. Adequate facilities are available for carrying out various tests specified in different water meter standards like IS, ISO, EEC, OIML etc.
Assistance is being offered to different water Utilities during bulk purchase of water meters. Frequently asked questions regarding the purchase of meters with their answers are available for download. A Model approval program is launched to help the manufacturers to improve the quality of their meters. The details are available for download. Details of models passed the endurance test will be made available in this website. This is expected to help water boards to verify the models submitted by suppliers and proceed with quick purchase with acceptance tests on randomly sampled meters and applying the prescribed acceptance criteria. Special concessions on testing charges are applicable for water boards carrying out acceptance tests as per national/international norms during their bulk purchase.
This quality assurance practice followed by various water boards in India has yielded substantial improvement in their revenue and reduction in UFW.
Most of the water boards in India and manufacturers in India and abroad are availing various services offered by FCRI. We encourage the customers to witness the tests along with any person they permit, which makes the testing completely
transparent .
In order to provide better service to customers, a separate test facility to test water meters and other products used in water industry is being erected.
Hydrostatic pressure tests of pipes are conducted on samples obtained from a supplied lot before laying pipes in any water supply schemes. FCRI is identified as inspection agency for various water supply schemes. Roughness or C-value of pipes after long period of service in the distribution system is also determined.
