ENDURANCE TESTING OF CRITICAL COMPONENTS

To increase the reliability of a product/system, all the elements of the same should work properly through out the life. But in practice it is not possible to test the product/system for its entire life due to cost and time constraints, before launching to the market. To bridge this gap, accelerated life tests are performed. In these accelerated life tests, the sub assemblies/systems are subjected to higher values of system parameters like pressure, flow, temperature etc. for a shorter duration and the intensity of these parameters are increase in steps till failure of the sub assembly. This will provide the expected life of the sub assembly for different levels of system parameters such as flow, pressure, temperature etc with probability allocated.

At the end of the test, it will be possible to predict the life of the component at 95% confidence level. With the help of above system, automobile components like fuel hoses, steering pump casing, and heat exchanger element can be tested.

The Institute has facilities to perform hydraulic endurance testing upto 300 bar at ambient temperatures using ISO VG 68 Oil and can achieve a flowrate of 100 lpm. High temperature, high pressure testing can be performed upto 300 deg C and 200 bar
